LIVING BEYOND CANCER AND DISABILITY

It is a charitable organization that was started in 2014. Its aim is to spear head the fight against cancer and challenges that come as a result of the treatment. The organization initiates activities that would help in realizing funds that would help in creating awareness about cancer, educating the public researching and sensitizing the public concerning cancer as well as mainstreaming people with disabilities. The organization produces real life documentaries, books and other educational materials that helps in mainstreaming people with disabilities and cancer survivors, conducts workshops, consultancy and provides educational talks to the public that seek to inspire and motivate the public. These activites seek to give a service to the society; which in turn is expected to stand and support cancer survivors, people with disabilities and their families.

BACKGROUND OF THE ORGANIZATION

In June 2014, Getrude M. Wamae was diagonized of pleomorphic sarcoma; specifically Erwings sarcoma. After being treated of cancer she acquired a physical disability. Following the experiences she had she founded the organization living beyond cancer and disability. The organization seeks to raise funds for cancer treatment, awareness and early diagnosis for the purpose of treating cancer and the challenges that come there after in order to reduce incidences of death as a result of cancer.The organization also seeks to mainstream people with disabilities in the society.

To create awareness about cancer, inspire, motivate and mentor people with cancer, cancer survivors and their significant others as well as mainstreaming people with disabilities.

OUR OBJECTIVES

  1. To research and publish education materials on cancer and disability for purposes of disseminating the information to the public in order to create awareness and catalyze the process of mainstreaming
  2. To spear head the course of mainstreaming people with disabilities in the society.
  3. To educate and enlighten the society regarding cancer and disability issues.
  4. To partner with other organizations, policy makers and well wishers in order to help cancer survivors have a more healthy and productive life.
  5. To partner with well wishers and other organizations in order to sensitize the society and others on having a disability friendly environment.
  6. To initiate activities that will enable cancer survivors live a healthy and productive life.
  7. To initiate activities that will enable people with disabilities be independent.
